Definition

Paid Family Leave (PFL) refers to state programs that provide partial wage replacement to employees taking leave to bond with a new child or care for a seriously ill family member. Unlike FMLA which provides job protection but no pay, PFL programs provide income during leave. As of 2024, 13+ states have PFL programs.
